Since beginning a mortgage career in 2013, Laura Miano has called Homestead Financial Mortgage home. Drawn to a company with strong local roots and a reputation for putting people first, the decision to join Homestead became a turning point in both her career and family life. Over the years, the role has grown into more than just helping clients secure financing. It has become about guiding families through one of life’s biggest milestones, creating trust from the very first conversation, and enjoying the balance that makes work and home life thrive. In this Q&A, she shares the lessons she has learned, her favorite parts of the job, and why Homestead still feels like family.
Q: How did you get started in your mortgage career, and what led you to Homestead?
A: I began my mortgage career in the fall of 2013, and Homestead has been the first and only mortgage company I’ve ever worked for. When I was just starting out, I knew I wanted to be with a local company that had a strong reputation in the community. Homestead stood out immediately. Over the years, I’ve stayed because they’ve treated me like family and given me the opportunity to help others achieve the dream of homeownership.
Q: What do you love most about being a Homestead Loan Advisor?
A: What I enjoy most about my role is walking alongside people during one of the biggest milestones of their lives. Buying a home can sometimes feel overwhelming or intimidating, but I love being able to guide clients step by step, answer their questions, and reassure them along the way. It’s rewarding to see their excitement on closing day, knowing I was part of helping them reach that moment.
Q: What is the best advice you received during your time here?
A: The best advice I’ve received is that the very first conversation with a client sets the tone for the entire loan process. Taking the time upfront to really listen and understand their needs and goals makes everything smoother for both the client and our team. Getting those details early not only helps avoid challenges later but also builds trust from the start.
Q: Our mission statement is “Making lives better, one home at a time.” How has working at Homestead helped make your life better?
A: Homestead has given me the flexibility to work from home, which means I never have to miss my kids’ school events or sports activities. That kind of balance is priceless. I get to do meaningful work that I truly enjoy, while still being fully present for my family and the moments that matter most.
Q: If you could give advice to someone considering joining Homestead, what would it be?
A: My advice would be—don’t hesitate to ask questions. The mortgage industry is always evolving, and no one expects you to have all the answers on day one. The great thing about Homestead is the incredible support staff and team members who are always willing to help. It’s a place where you can grow, learn, and be supported along the way.
Laura’s story is a reflection of what makes Homestead special. From day one, she has found support, encouragement, and the tools to grow while never missing the moments that matter most at home. Whether it is helping a first-time buyer navigate the loan process or celebrating with a family on closing day, the work is meaningful and rewarding.
