Michelle Neuf has been part of Homestead Financial Mortgage since 2006, and from her very first day she knew she had found something special. Nearly 19 years later, she continues to thrive in a role that blends problem-solving, teamwork, and client care. For Michelle, it is not just about closing loans, but about collaborating with her colleagues, supporting borrowers on their journey to homeownership, and growing through the constant changes of the mortgage industry. In this Q&A, Michelle reflects on her career, the lessons she has learned, and why Homestead still feels like home.
Q: You’ve had a long career here at Homestead. Thinking back to when you started, how has your experience compared to your expectations?
A: I interviewed for a processing position in December of 2006, right before the holidays. Shortly after I accepted the position, Eric Paniucki—our processing manager—invited me to the company Christmas party. I was shocked! Who does that before someone has even started? They didn’t really know me yet, and I only knew one or two people at the company, so I ended up not going. Looking back now, I wish I had. By lunchtime on my very first day, I already felt right at home. The environment was relaxed, welcoming, and fun. That first day set the tone for what has been an incredible journey at Homestead. Nearly 19 years later, I still love my job and this company. My expectations have been exceeded from day one!
Q: What do you love most about being a Processor at Homestead?
A: What I love most is the teamwork. At Homestead, processors, underwriters, managers, and even the owners all work side by side. No one is ever too busy or too important to lend a hand. When challenges come up, we brainstorm together and find creative solutions that serve our borrowers best. Communication is key here—we’re never afraid to walk into someone’s office, jump on a call, or collaborate directly on a file. That willingness to work as one team makes all the difference in getting loans closed smoothly and giving our clients the best possible experience.
Q: How would you describe our company culture, and what makes it different from other places you’ve worked?
A: The culture at Homestead is truly unique—it feels like family. We work hard, but we also make time to laugh, celebrate, and support each other. The owners—Andros, Greg, and Jayson—set the tone by genuinely caring about their employees and their families. They know us personally, and that kind of leadership trickles down through the entire company. It’s a culture of trust, teamwork, and belonging, and that makes Homestead stand apart from anywhere else I’ve worked.
Q: What’s been the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your 18+ years with us?
A: The biggest lesson is that the mortgage business is always evolving. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, something changes. I learn something new every day. I’ve come to adapt and “roll with it.” Every day is an opportunity to learn something new, and that mindset has kept me motivated over the years.
Q: If you could give advice to someone considering joining Homestead, what would it be?
A: Do it—This is an incredible company to work for. You’ll be supported, challenged, and appreciated, and you’ll actually enjoy coming to work every day. If you’re looking for a place where you can grow professionally and feel like part of a family, Homestead is the right place.
