a&a eckert

At Homestead Financial Mortgage we’ve struck a rare balance of laid-back camaraderie and forward-driving ambition, and few people embody that mix better than Steve Eckert. In this Q&A he reveals how our relaxed energy fuels real teamwork, why wearing multiple hats keeps his role endlessly engaging, and how the simple practice of listening, and a leadership team that trusts you, can transform both your career and your work-life balance. Read on to discover what makes Homestead stand out through Steve’s eyes.

Q: How would you describe the culture at Homestead, and what makes it different from other places you’ve worked?
A: I appreciate the relaxed energy around here—it’s one of the things that makes Homestead so special. There’s a real sense of support and camaraderie, and people genuinely want to see each other succeed. At the same time, there’s growth happening in every corner of the company. You can feel the momentum, and new opportunities are always emerging for those who are willing to step up and seize them. It’s a rare combination of a laid-back atmosphere and a forward-moving, ambitious mindset.

Q: What do you love most about your role at Homestead?
A: I really enjoy the variety that my role provides. I get to wear a few different hats, which keeps things interesting and helps me stay sharp. Whether it’s working with clients, collaborating with different departments, or handling day-to-day challenges, I’m constantly learning and staying busy. I thrive in this kind of environment because it keeps me engaged and makes my work feel meaningful.

Q: What is the best advice you received while working in the mortgage industry?
A: Listen, listen, listen—and always keep learning. Truly hearing what clients and coworkers are saying is essential to building trust and finding the right solutions. And because the industry is always evolving, staying curious and continuing to learn helps you adapt and grow with it.

Q: Our mission statement is “Making lives better, one home at a time.” How has working at Homestead helped make your life better?
A: There’s a great deal of trust from leadership, and that allows you to take ownership of your work and find your own rhythm. That sense of independence has helped me grow professionally and achieve a greater balance in my life. It’s empowering to work for a company that believes in its people.

Q: If you could give advice to someone considering joining Homestead, what would it be?
A: Give the process a little time, and the rewards will follow. Like any new role, it takes some effort to get your footing, but if you’re patient and committed, Homestead offers real opportunities for growth. It’s a great place to build a career if you’re willing to invest in it.

Steve’s journey shows that when you combine genuine support, a willingness to learn, and the freedom to own your work, remarkable things happen, both for your team and the homeowners you serve. At Homestead, our culture of trust and adaptability empowers people like Steve to thrive, day in and day out. If you’re ready to step into an environment where your voice matters, your growth is championed, and real momentum awaits, we’d love to welcome you aboard.
