Finding Home in St. Louis: Alexa’s First-Time Buyer Experience with Homestead Financial

September 4, 2025

Alexa had never truly had a place to call her hometown — until she got ahold of Loan Officer Joanne Worobec here at Homestead Financial Mortgage.

Originally from Texas, she recently moved to Missouri and decided it was time to stop renting and start investing in a space of her own. “This was my first home loan navigating buying a house without a co-signer,” Alexa shared. “It’s hard to put into words how much it means to now have a hometown and own my own home.”

Before buying, Alexa lived in a moldy apartment with noise issues — not exactly the peaceful home she wanted. “I basically broke my lease early to find out that I could buy a home instead of getting stuck in another bad apartment,” she said.

As a busy professional with a packed 9-to-5 schedule, Alexa needed a loan officer who could keep up with her calendar. That’s where Joanne from Homestead Financial Mortgage came in.

“Joanne was always willing to talk to me in the evenings, on the weekends — she was incredibly responsive,” Alexa said. “I can’t say enough nice things about her knowledge and availability. It was the best match I could have hoped for.”

Alexa discovered Homestead through her realtor, did her research, and quickly felt a connection with Joanne after their very first call. That call sparked what she describes as the beginning of a long-term lending relationship. “Joanne was already talking to me about investment properties and keeping an eye out for refinancing options,” she noted. “She was already seeing twenty steps ahead.”

Now living in U City near parks, restaurants, and vintage vinyl shops, Alexa says she’s embracing her new hometown fully — and enjoying her home and mortgage freedom.
